Item Description
8-1/8x10” vintage glossy has wonderful image of Black wearing homemade “Champion Pitcher” crown and looking at a baseball in his hand. Taken at end of 1951-52 season when he led the Cuban League in wins and strikeouts. Reverse side has his name in pencil text w/"Foto Rocamora Habana” ink stamp. Lt. creasing, mostly just visible in reflected light. Fine. As a 1952 Brooklyn Dodger he became the first black pitcher to win a World Series game, and was named the NL Rookie of the Year. In 1957 he was the Washington Senator’s first black player. From the Richard Merkin Collection and comes with Hake’s COA.
