Item Description
6.75x7-7/8x5/16" deep, superb specimen contains the complete fossilized remains of 2.25" long dragonfly w/wingspan of 3" wide. Fossil dates to the Cretaceous Period (145–66 million years ago) and was excavated from the Santana Formation in the state of Ceará in northern Brazil. Dragonfly design has not changed much in the millenia that has passed since the fossilized creature offered here flitted through the warm Cretaceous air. This design, w/the dragonfly's delicate wings make it a particularly tricky prize for the fossil hunter to excavate. The example we are offering is wonderfully preserved, w/the nodus of each of the four wings clearly visible, along w/the highly corrugated wing architecture of veins and membranes still clearly visible. A superbly prepared example of a highly rare fossil. From the Robert M. Overstreet Collection and comes with COA.
