Item Description
Small 2.75x2.75" original glossy photo from the 1920s. Sharp and clear image of Foster seated outdoors w/a woman on either side of him. Foster wears a three-piece suit. Inked words across their legs, apparently in Foster's hand, is "Aunt", "Me" and a third word we can't make out. We sold another such candid photo in our Nov. 2014 auction that pictured Foster w/two of his aunts. As with that photo, this is from the Foster Estate and comes w/LOA signed by his daughter Sarah. Slight top/bottom margin trim. Reverse has paper adhered as once scrapbook mounted. Fine. Foster was a star pitcher playing for a number of Negro League teams such as the Chicago American Giants, Homestead Grays, KC Monarchs and Pittsburgh Crawfords. He was a two-time All-Star and two-time Negro League World Series champion. He was inducted into the National Baseball HOF in 1996. He was the younger brother of Rube Foster, Negro league player, pioneer, and fellow Hall of Famer. Original photos of Foster are rare.
