Item Description
Each piece about 2" tall. All are in brass with the exception of one all plastic whistle. Group begins with his first decoder issued in 1941. Some small areas with darker tarnish but 80% remains. Next from 1942 features his inset glossy real photo which new owners were supposed to remove and replace with their own. This has light horizontal center crease and a fine hairline in the emulsion on the upper left background. No stain and full gloss. Exc. luster on the brass. The Captain took a few years off due to war years metal restrictions but next issued is 1945 decoder. This has center plastic wheel. NM. Next from 1946 also has center plastic wheel and this has warped just the slightest bit so that the plastic center will fall out unless perfectly positioned. NM luster. From 1947 is the all plastic whistle decoder and this is Exc. Next and scarcest in the entire series is from 1948. This has a red plastic back with a silver metal rectangle at center for signaling purposes. Two tabs hold the back in place and this one is working perfectly although this tab arrangement is the reason many reverse panels were lost back in 1948. Most original luster is gone but the brass surfaces are exceptionally clean and bright. Displays NM. Last and from 1949 is his final metal decoder. This one came with a small brass key to set the code wheels. That is not present but the decoder itself is VF with most luster.
