Item Description
John W. Campbell Jr. (1910-1971) was an American Sci-Fi writer/editor. As editor of "Astounding Science Fiction" (later called "Analog Science Fiction And Fact") from late 1937 until his death, he is generally credited w/shaping the Golden Age of science fiction. Offered here is a 5-3/8x7.75" hardcover w/230 pages and original dust jacket featuring creature design by Hannes Bok. This is a first edition, one of 200 subscriber's copies that were signed by Campbell. Shasta Publishers, 1948. This classic collection of stories first published under Campbell's pseudonym - Don A. Stuart - in "Astounding Science Fiction" between 1934 and 1938. The title story has been filmed three times, first in 1951 as "The Thing From Another World" starring James Arness, in 1982 by John Carpenter as "The Thing" and as a continuation of that story in 2011's "The Thing." Book has been boldly signed in black ink on frontispage. DJ shows obvious wear, w/splits and corner tips missing, including .5x1.25" piece at lower right of front cover. DJ is evenly aged and VG overall. Book itself is Exc. Signature displays Exc. Comes with Hake's COA.
