Item Description
Pair of thin artboards w/India ink original art by Harold Knerr, who took over the strip from creator Rudolph Dirks. Artboards measure 8x23" and 11.5x23" and comprise the complete Sunday page for Jan. 26, 1930. Art features total of 12 panels and shows Hans and Fritz stealing pie from stack Mama had made for Chief Gookwook's fair. After being caught, the boys escape, chasing after pie delivery man on sled. They catch up and steal the pies. Der Inspector relays that the pies haven't arrived as angry delivery man comes back to the village. The delivery man, The Captain and Mister Chief go on the hunt, finding the boys asleep among the sled dogs, all the pies consumed. Last panel reveals Captain and Mister Chief spanking the boys as they make the trip back via sled. Knerr has signed last panel. Tenth panel has Int'l Features Syndicate, Inc. copyright strip. Back has been hand-addressed (to King Features Syndicate recipient) by Knerr. Left/right front margins have a number of date stamps as well as penciled dates. Artboards have some scattered handling wear/aging, but art remains clean and Exc. overall.
