Item Description
15x15x1.5" deep wood frame has glass cover over the original cardboard mat which has 7.5x8.5" opening. Has clear acetate sheet over full color hand-inked cutout cel of Donald mounted against hand-prepared air brushed bkg. Image of Donald is 4x4.5" depicting him w/angry expression shouting into a candlestick telephone. Although noted o/w on the original label this image was frequently used by the Studio for publicity purposes but never appeared in any cartoons. These publicity cels were produced around the late 1940s-early 1950s and were sometimes given to special guests at the studio. The mat at lower right has large 3x5" area w/bold inscription and signature done in colored pencil reading "To Ronnie Best Wishes Walt Disney." Originally on the reverse of the cardboard mat the 4x5" paper label was neatly removed and has been affixed to the reverse of the frame. Although inaccurate, this has hand-inked text noting it is from "Der Fuehrer's Face" and also notes that rather than a print, this is a "Original." The mat itself has tiny ft. text along bottom edge of opening noting "From Der Fuehrer's Face" as well as "WDP" seal. The mat has moderate scattered tan age toning which is noticeable but does not affect the signature area which remains distinct. Bottom center margin of mat has 2.5" long extremely faint moisture streak but again, well away from the signature area. Cel image has just a pair of tiny brown dots on Donald's rear end, all minor defects and appearance for display is still VF. An incredibly impressive display piece w/one of the largest Disney signatures we've ever offered. $5000- $6000
