Item Description
13.5x20" artboard features pen and ink original art (w/screentone accents) for one-page "Lovelife" comic story by Alex Toth (1928-2006), a cartoonist known for his works in both comic books as well as for his various Hanna-Barbera cartoon character designs. Toth is especially noted for his masterful use of shadow, which is in full display w/the cartoon published in DRAG Cartoons #5 in 1964. Artboard features six panels, showing couple dangerously speeding in hot rod, w/woman asking her beau if he loves her, screaming at him to let her out of the car when he zooms between two tractor trailers. Last panel features great close-up shot of the couple, showing the woman's terrified face held in her hands while the man sticks his tongue out in concentration as he shifts gears. Bottom right has small speeding hot road cartoons outside comic panels. Toth has signed screentone clipping in second to last panel. Top margin has handwritten "'Lovelife' One Pager / Complete Art - Artist: Alexander Toth" going on to give his address, all written in black felt tip pen. Artboard has some corner tip wear but art remains clean and Exc. Great example of Toth's art. From the Archives of Publisher Pete Millar.
