Item Description
1.25" with superb color ocean and beach scene accented by word "Aloha". In 1902, the Hawaii Merchants Assoc. proposed tourist advertising. The next year, Governor Sanford Dole backed the Tourist Committee's request for funds and $15,000 was approved for what became the Hawaiian Promotion Committee. The name changed in 1919 to Hawaii Tourist Bureau. The text on this button's back paper has surface paper off removing 50% of the first three following words "Compliments Hawaii Promotion" but remaining text is undamaged reading "Committee/Honolulu, Hawaii/Button Mfd. by Bastian Bros. Co. Rochester, NY." so this button was produced between 1903 and 1919. Scarce. Cello is essentially Mint.
