Item Description
23.5x26". Cotton. Listed in Collins Threads of History as plate #207 on p.127. Folksy portrait of candidate in military uniform clutching a scroll flanked by waving American flags. Encircling the central motif is legend "Rough And Ready/Gen. Taylor" accented by olive branches. Well flattened vertical and horizontal fold w/a 1.5" vertical hairline separation in field at bottom center affecting one of the rays seen under close inspection. Scattered faint damp staining most notably in top left and right fields. Otherwise expected handling and faint age. Fine. The near hypnotic design of this bandana makes it a standout among the few known Taylor textile designs and a cornerstone artifact of the 1848 Whig campaign.
