Item Description
This very rare item is from 1934. The cardboard theatre is 3.5x10x5” tall and was originally a product box containing three cans of soup. Inside of box notes the package was to be reassembled into a theatre. Has a pair of rollers that the paper film strip is attached to, these stick out of the top of the box and are used to advance the film. Box graphics include simulated curtain with a pair of trumpeters on either side of the die-cut screen. Top reads “To Get More Films Save The Labels From Cans Of Hormel Soup.” Film included with the theatre is “Tarzan And His Mate” which starred Johnny Weissmuller. Title frame reads “From The Motion Picture Of The Same Name Coming To Your Local
Theatre Soon.” The reel begins with detailed assembly instructions, this is followed by 15 different bw film scenes. Final frames feature ads for Hormel products along with an ad for additional films which were available with product labels. These were "Ken Maynard in Wheels Of Destiny and Dick Dare in The Mystery Of The Wolf." Top of box has scattered edge wear with some light creases, top center has pair of .25” tears at corners of the screen. Underside panel has .5” & 1.5” corner tears. Still structurally sound and clean appearance. The filmstrip has some tape repairs to margin tears mostly on the final advertising frames. Overall Fine. First we’ve seen. From the Tomart Archives and comes w/COA signed by Tom Tumbusch & Ted Hake.
