Eleanor Roosevelt supported the group although in 1939 the Dies Committee subpoenaed its leaders, a core from the Young Communist League. Mrs. Roosevelt attended those hearings and invited the witnesses to board at the White House. During one convention, some joined Mrs. Roosevelt for a picnic on the White House lawn. This button has a couple of small paint chips on its upper edge and has been very slightly flattened along its extreme left edge around the words "I Am." Still displays nicely.
