Item Description
Originally, this item was the largest known size 1840 luster pitcher standing 9.5” tall. The original shape is shown as Hake/Harrison #3025. The only complete example we could locate in this size (although with variations to the images) sold at Heritage in 2005 for $8,625. Our example stands 5.75” tall with a smooth cut across the top and nothing left of the handle except a 1” stub at its base on the right side. The oval vase-like opening on the top is about 3.25x4”. Of what remains, there are four additional small flaws. On the very top rim edge, a flake of luster is off 7/16” long but only 1/8” at the deepest point. Also, on the front edge surrounding the image, a very shallow fragment is off at 9:30 only 1/16” wide by .25” long and barely showing. The last two areas are both on the reverse side on the flared base. There is a luster dot off 1/8” dia. showing as a cream colored dot and there is a large sliver off .5” wide and .75” long. Well over 95% of the gold luster remains perfect. The front image of Harrison is black and white (the Heritage version was purple). The flags flaking him read “Tippecanoe” and “Thames.” There is a very tiny 1/16” scratch across his lip and a dot rub on his cheek. The reverse shows his log cabin in great detail (the Heritage version shows an eagle). The cabin door stands open and has printed on it “To Let In 1841” implying he won’t be needing the cabin having departed to assume the presidency. A great rarity that still displays with incredible presence and beauty. From the Morry Greener Collection.
