Auction #202 - Part I
Item numbers 1 through 1553 in auction 202
Item Description
The first two pieces are 2-7/8" tall matchbox holders with celluloid panels and a hinged lid at top. First has color symbols and inscription "In Union There Is Strength/Labor Omnia Vincit." Small areas of color gone mostly from the lower image. Reverse has panel with logo and text "Union Made/United Brotherhood Of Carpenters And Joiners Of America." Small color loss. Celluloid on one edge panel has a small gap but not coming loose. Overall condition is about VF. Second reads "Compliments Of The United Hatters Of North America." One side also reads "Buy No Hat Without This Label." Noticeable spotting at bottom or top of each cello panel but most of the cello area remains clean. Small loss of luster on the silvered brass case. VG. Last is a three-sided celluloid-wrapped piece of metal for holding a wooden box of matches. This is from same union as previous item and with much of the same text although one side shows an upside down hat with the inner band raised to display the union label with text above "The Genuine Labels Are Sewed In." Noticeable stain around the edges. Scarce early labor items.
