Item Description
Nick Cardy’s covers are always a highlight of any Silver Age Aquaman book. Cardy was a master at using space and perspective. By leaving such a wide expanse of blue around the action, he creates a very real feeling for the void that the sea really is. This creates fluidity to the movement of the figures. The only physical object that does not look fluid is the rock that the grown Aquababy is pressed against. The word blurbs reveal more about the time in which the book was published than they do about Cardy’s style. This book was published while the Batman TV show was still riding high on the airwaves. The blurbs are quick and to the point, creating a sense of dire emergency. They almost sound like an announcer is reading them. Given what would eventually happen to Aquababy, the story is almost a prediction. The book was written by Bob Haney and Cardy also handles the interiors. The pages are cream to off-white. The book is CGC-certified 9.2 (NM-). According to the CGC Census, this copy is tied with one other as the second highest certified copy they have seen.
