Auction #206 - Part II
Item numbers 1279 through 2976 in auction 206
Item Description
Camera is 3x4x5" long. The following information comes from the George Eastman House Technology Archive: "c. 1946. Brownie Target Six-20 Camera With Special Face Plate Depicting Mickey Mouse. Existence Of This Camera Was Unknown Until 1995, When A Few Showed Up At Antique Dealers. Evidence Suggests That The Cameras Were Made As Prototypes But Not Marketed. The Project May Have Started In The Late 1930s Because The Mickey Drawing And Disney Company Name Are Pre-War. The Camera Name And Design Are Post-War. For Whatever Reason, The Project Was Dropped And The Face Plates And Complete Samples Remained Hidden. Evidence Also Suggests Later Assembly Of Some Face Plates To Camera Bodies. In Any Case, These Are Rare, With Only A Half Dozen Examples Known To Date. One Is Known To Have An Original Box." What the previous doesn't explain, nor can we, is why the camera's name as quoted on the leather handle is identical to that printed on the face plate "Brownie Target Six-20." The other text on the face plate in addition to the "Mickey Mouse" name and image is "Made In U.S.A. By Eastman Kodak Co." and "Copyright By Special Permission Walt Disney Enterprises." The use of the word "Enterprises" and the fact that Mickey has pie-cut eyes would imply a design prior to 1938 and in fact both the color scheme and Mickey image on the face plate are very close to that used on Keystone movie projectors first issued in 1934. Overall appearance is clean and VF. Rare and the only the second example we've seen or offered in our 46 years.
