Item Description
First in its original box, with split corners and general wear, is very heavy 2" medal showing Angel Of Mercy holding a torch and a scales of justice before her spread wings while below she stands on a globe flanked by a dog, cat and horse. Background is covered in burst design. Enameling in red. Front initials "MSPCA." Bit of silver luster loss but still VF. Reverse, with majority of luster intact reads "Presented By The Massachusetts Society For The Prevention Of Cruelty To Animals/For Promoting/Kindness To Animals." Early 1900s and only example we've seen. Next is 2-7/8" tall ribbon badge in silvered brass showing female figure with shield while at left is a horse at center is child and at right is a dog. Enamel rim has text "Humane Education/Kindness-Mercy-Justice." Reverse raised text "Poster Contest/Awarded By Connecticut Humane Society 1926." Reverse has name of maker W&H and word "Sterling." Next is 7/8" button c.1920 with Bastian paper and reading "Be Kind To Animals/S.P.C.A." Mint. Last is well made brass badge showing same scene as on the ribbon badge with rim text "Connecticut Humane Society." Reverse has name of maker Braxmar. Mint. Four of the best animal welfare items we've been able to offer.
