Item Description
2" diameter well made watch with December 22 '08 patent date on the interior mechanism. This interior mechanism also reads "Dan Patch Stop Watch." The watch is not working and can not be wound nor the hands set as the stem at the top is frozen. Dial has barely seen hairline mark running between 11:30 and 2. With the case back off there is no evident damage so perhaps a repair would be possible. Interior case back also reads "7 Jewels." The back of the case itself has large engraved portrait with text below "Dan Patch 1:55." His record time on the previous button is 1.25 seconds slower than the time given on this pocket watch with the time on the watch achieved by him for a pacing mile in 1906 at the Minnesota State Fair, although not officially recognized because of the use of a prompter with a windshield. Dan Patch's fame brought him extensive product endorsements including toys, cigars, and even washing machines. An early giant among America's celebrity animals. See celebrity horses #1071.
