Item Description
10x27" illustrated cardboard display card contains 24" long plastic Tommy gun and 7x8.5" soft rubber Ape mask by Mattel, set No. 7330. 1970s though marked 1967. While display card features great images of Ape using gun in this set, the gun was originally issued for another property (like following item #2541) that was quickly repurposed to cash in on the popularity of "Planet Of The Apes." However, despite the movie's popularity, these sets did not sell well and were quickly pulled from shelves. Gun has "Planet Of The Apes" illustrated decal on stock and features pull lever that allows for gun to produce machine gun sounds when trigger is pulled. Works. Mask is unused as still affixed to insert and remains totally pliable. Both are Exc. Decal is aged but remains firmly affixed to stock. Card has some lt. aging and scattered edge/corner tip wear w/creases at left/right ends. VF. Both gun and mask are rare and set is extremely rare in original box. Among the rarest and most sought after Planet of the Apes items, our last example sold for $1,109.
