Item Description
Thin art boards have an average India ink image area of 5x17- 3/8”. Dates range from 1961 to 1970. Characters include absent-minded Phineas Phumble, his wife, son Thornton, and dog Cuddles in humorous situations. Dates include: 1961- Jan. 2; 1962- Jan. 17, Feb. 3, 7, 8; March 1, April 25, 28; May 28, 29; June 7; Aug. 15. 1965- April 21, 23; June 26, Oct.18, 28 and April 8, 1970. All are signed in ink “Bill Yates”, complete w/King Features syndicate copyright pasted strips. Applied zipatone for shading has yellowed here and there, lot otherwise Exc. Bill Yates (1921-2001) was a noted humor cartoonist who also edited cartoon magazines for Dell and became King Features comic strip editor in 1978. “Professor Phumble” ran from 1960 to 1978. Funny well drawn examples.
