Collection Detail

Deak’s first foray into collectibles was Art Deco in the early 1970s. Disneyana soon followed and for the next three decades he amassed an exceptional collection of vintage items for Mickey Mouse and the Disney gang. Along the way he also got into Japanese tin trucks, buying them at toy shows and auctions. One of his final collections, and passions in general, was the movie Almost Famous. Deak was an avid music and film buff. He had a big physical media collection for both and was also routinely going to concerts and movie theaters. All of these worlds collided with Almost Famous, a film that Deak became borderline obsessed with. Upon its initial release in 2000, Deak scoured auctions high and low amassing an impressive collection of items from screen worn clothing and movie props, to publicity material, autographs and much more. He was beside himself when a promo only copy of Stillwater- Farrington Road vinyl lp was listed on eBay. He waited for the seconds to tick down and made sure he was the winning bidding. Shortly after it ended, and much to his surprise, he was contacted by Scott Martin of Vinyl Films, who told him that Cameron Crowe himself had the record listed on eBay as he was curious what uber-fan would win it and wanted to know why. That lead to a phone conversation between Deak and the director in which they were equally happy to hear what the other had to say about the film and more. When the lp arrived, Deak was over the moon to see that Cameron had signed and personalized it to him on the inside of the gatefold and even included a few Stillwater prop album covers (not offered this auction but shown as part of the Featured Collection bio). Offered here for the first time are some of the film worn, screen used and/or prop department items Deak added to his collection over 20 years ago when the film was far from a box office smash. It did however receive four Academy Award nominations, including a win for Best Original Screen Play as well as a Grammy for Best Compilation Soundtrack Album for a Motion Picture. Almost Famous has since grown in popularity and become a cult classic. A stage musical adaptation opened on Broadway in 2022. Here is your chance to become “A Golden God” among Almost Famous collectors. Deak Stagemyer (1947-2021)
