Item Description
Pair of premium comic books issued by Sears department stores for the Christmas season in 1939 and 1943. 10.5x13" die-cut issue w/16 pages is from 1939 and features an array of Chicago Tribune characters including Dick Tracy, Little Orphan Annie, Gasoline Alley characters, Smitty, Moon Mullins and others. Centerfold has specialty art of comic strip characters as Christmas shoppers at Sears Toyland. Remainder of book includes Sunday page comic strip reprints. Contents also include page w/various comic strips to color. This has two blocks colored. Pinch creases to spine and aging to front cover, which has some edge wear. Back cover has .5x.75" edge chip. Fine. Scarce. 1943 issue measures 8x10.75" and has 24 pages. Dick Tracy, Terry and The Pirates, Orphan Annie and their comic character friends appear in specially done riddles, adventures, puzzles, games, etc. Book has moderate margin aging w/three .25" tears to spine. VG/Fine overall. Pages are lightly aged and one connect-the-dots page has been used. Pages are o/w VF.
