Item Description
11x14" title card for the original release of the 1929 romantic drama directed by Lionel Barrymore that starred John Gilbert. Gilbert is pictured on this card. At one time, Gilbert was one of the top leading men in silent-era Hollywood. Renowned for his dashing good looks and romantic portrayals, he rose to be one of the top leading men after the death of his chief rival, Rudolph Valentino in 1926. "His Glorious Night" was his first sound film. Reportedly, his voice was too high-pitched and reedy to match his dashing image, and audiences laughed at inappropriate times. After this film, Gilbert would make just a handful of additional films before passing away from a heart attack in 1936 at the age of 39. Card has even aging and scattered margin wear w/some corner creases. Two small staple holes at center by Gilbert's first name. Fine/VF. All promotional items from the original release of this film are rare.
