Item Description
6-3/8x9-3/8x2-1/8" thick hardcover w/1,219 pages. Published by Radio Daily Corp., we believe this is the first year this annual publication was expanded to also include television as noted by embossed "Television Year Book" text on front cover. Book lists every radio and TV station by state as well as Canada and a few other locales. Book also includes a comprehensive list of advertising agencies, publications, production companies, performing rights societies and much more. Some content of note includes - two-page spread for "The Guy Lombardo Show," photo of Vaughn Monroe (of "Mr. Sandman" fame) as well as full pages for The Andrews Sisters, Perry Como, Guy Lombardo, Eddie Cantor, Bob Hope, Milton Berle, Jimmy Durante cartoon caricature, "The Alan Young Show," Edgar Bergen w/Charlie McCarthy and Mortimer Snerd and bottles of Coca-Cola, Roy Rogers and Trigger and much, much more. Legendary voice actor Mel Blanc is featured on half page, noted for his work w/Bugs Bunny, Porky Pig, Daffy Duck and Woody Woodpecker. Some headlines of note include - "TV Impact Unprecedented" and "Television - A Progress Report," indicating substantial growth in the early TV market. Another section is titled "Behind The Mike - Radio - Television" and lists subjects like artists, vocalists, sports commentators, disc jockeys, writers, announcers, etc. Another section is titled "Programs" and deals w/commercially sponsored, title, advertiser and product, network and advertising agency. A special section - "The 1949 Year Book Of Television" - also presents similar coverage for the burgeoning TV empire. Book has some aging and general handling wear w/spine covering loose but still in place. Fine. Interior pages have some scattered handling wear and are VF overall. This amazing trade publication is an invaluable reference for the early days of TV and is widely considered an authoritative text on the industry.
