Item Description
Lot of four 8x10-5/8" magazines, published by I.C. Publishing Co., Inc. Issues were a blend of comic book and magazine, w/classic EC Comics story illustrations printed w/caption text. Lot comprises complete set of first and second issues of "Terror Illustrated" and complete set of first and second issues of "Crime Illustrated" which were published in conjunction in Nov./Dec. 1955 and April 1956. Both titles were edited by Al Feldstein. As w/EC's comic books, Feldstein was the most prolific writer of the titles, generally writing up to three stories per issue. In addition to the stories credited to him, Feldstein also wrote under pseudonyms Maxwell Williams and Alfred E. Neuman. Feldstein included multiple retellings of previous stories, a move suggested by publisher William Gaines. For "Terror Illustrated" this included "The Basket" and "The Gorilla's Paw" in the first issue and "Horror In The Freak Tent" and "Reflection Of Death" in #2. Other contributing writers included Jack Oleck and John Larner. Featured illustrators included Reed Crandall, Joe Orlando, George Evans, Graham Ingels, Johnny Craig, Charles Sultan and Jack Davis. For "Crime Illustrated" this included "Fall Guy For Murder" and "Mother's Day" in the first issue and "Screenplay For Murder" and "Pieces Of Hate" in #2. Other contributing writers included Oleck, Richard Smith and Larner. Featured illustrators included Orlando, Bernard Krigstein, Crandall, Ingels, George Evans, Davis and Craig. Issues have some lt. handling wear/aging w/pinch creases to spines. First issue of "Crime Illustrated" has personal name/address stamp at top center of front cover. Fine/VF overall. Seldom seen and highly sought-after for generations, "Terror Illustrated" and "Crime Illustrated" (along w/sister titles "Shock Illustrated" and "Confessions Illustrated") are among the hardest-to-find EC titles.
