Item Description
The Miller Brothers 101 Ranch was the birthplace of the 101 Ranch Wild West Show and The Millers made their transition from putting on local shows to the national scene in 1907, when they performed at the Jamestown Exposition in Virginia. Later that year, The Miller Brothers 101 Ranch Wild West Show began the tour circuit. Over the course of the show's history, its cast included Lillian Smith, Bill Pickett, Bessie Herberg, Bee Ho Gray, Tom Mix, Jack Hoxie, Mexican Joe, Ross Hettan, and an elderly Buffalo Bill. Large 20x55" tall vertical half-sheet poster features great imagery w/large arrowhead at center w/"Miller Bros. 101 Ranch - Real Wild West And Great Far East" text and is surrounded by detailed depiction of elaborate parade displayed in a winding pattern featuring wagons, a band, various horses and even elephants w/personnel who performed in the shows, including several Native Americans in war bonnets. Top features image of Native Americans signing the 1682 treaty w/Pennsylvania's founder William Penn. These lavish parades were commonly held in each city prior to show time. Printed by The National Ptg. & Eng. Co. of Chicago, c. 1910s. Text at bottom reads "The Only Real Historic Wild West Show Possible - A Realistic Exhibition Portrayed In An Arena Wherein Every Thrilling Act Incidental To Genuine Western Life Is Actually Reproduced. The Greatest And Most Novel Big Free Street Parade At 11:00 A.M. Rain Or Shine." Poster has been linen-mounted which lessens the impact of the poster's original horizontal fold lines. Poster shows scattered handling wear w/some creases. Top margin has three 2.5" to 3" strips of surface paper lifts from tape removal w/added restoration. Margins have scattered restoration to majority w/some scattered moderate aging, mainly at top corners. Rare poster. VG/Fine overall but if framed, poster would display nicely. Fred Hoffman Collection.
