Item Description
Lot of three English items from the 1930s featuring the Dismal Desmond character created in 1926 by Ian Hassall, appearing in the "Toby" magazine for boys. Offered here is a 8" tall plush doll w/text at neck reading "Made In England By Dean's Rag Book Co. Ld. - Hygienic Stuffing." Text is visible as doll is missing collar w/bow. Doll has even lt. aging and some lt. scattered dust soiling. Fine. Comes w/two 3-5/8x5-5/8" real photo postcards w/color tinting from numbered series. First (5724) shows two different size Desmond dolls that that offered in this lot w/"'Come Let Us All Be Miserable Together!' w/Desmond's name. Images have been traced, giving card an embossed feel. Unused and Fine/VF. Second (5728) shows single Desmond doll w/"'Every Silver Lining Has A Cloud'" text and his name. Unused and VF. Doug & Pat Wengel Collection.
