Item Description
5.5x16x3.25" deep plain cardboard mailer box contains 17" tall cloth/wood/composition Howdy Doody marionette. Peter Puppet Playthings Inc. © Bob Smith, c. 1948-1950. Illustrated instruction sheet for using die-cut cardboard "Unitrol" (one-piece controller) included. Box has inking and faint pencil marks as well as scattered wear and printed name added to end flap. Box is complete and VG. Marionette wears checkered fabric shirt w/Howdy Doody character images and cheesecloth kerchief and composition boots w/"HD" oilcloth covers. Vinyl belt w/metal buckle. Head (w/google eyes), hands and feet are composition w/a few cracks to moving jaw and hands. Boots show more moderate cracking, w/about one-third of surface flaked off left boot. Fine/VF overall.
