Item Description
Original illustrated cardboard box contains shiny plush stuffed Cocker Spaniel doll measures 28" tall and was used as a subscription sales promotional item by "The Chicago Tribune" in the mid-1960s. The doll was obtained by subscribing to the newspaper. In addition, the animal took on a life of its own as a recurring character on Chicago TV channel WGN's "Ray Rayner and Friends" children's show for many years. Box features die-cut design that allowed user to punch-out parts to form "Cuddly Dudley" car w/his name on both doors and "CD" initials on grille above "Arf" license plate. Boxes were also issued in designs that included a dog house, jet and train. Box has a few wheels loose from interior perforated inserts (but included) and comes w/original sealed envelope containing hardware. Box has some lt. scattered aging and wear w/a few loose perforations, but is o/w Exc. These boxes are rare, especially in this condition. Doll has a few long strings on underside, but is o/w NM. Great item for a Chicago icon. Gary Keller Collection.
