Item Description
The ring was promoted as a contest prize on the cereal box back which showed a cartoon map of Montana. From four clues and an "X" marking "Goldmine #3" on the map, kids were supposed to name the town of the the mine's location in Montana in order to win the ring. The ring's lower half is a quite narrow band of brass luster metal and the band is adjustable. The top of this band is held by a rivet to the underside of a much larger ring top of heavy and substantial metal again with brass luster. One side of this ring top shows what could best be described as an upside-down depiction of the Greek letter omega. The opposite side of the ring has what appears to be an atomic symbol comprised of seven tiny circles around a central circle. The top of the ring has a very high clear dome of substantial thick plastic. Within the compartment it forms against a white background is a .25" dia. gold colored piece of material which seems to be of metal and somewhat of more thickness than simply foil. Condition is Mint. The cereal box back states: "$50 REWARD $50/The Honeycomb Kid Will Pay You $50 Reward If The Piece Of Gold Mounted Under The Plastic Dome On The Honeycomb Kid's Ring Does Not Meet With The Specification Of The U.S. Government Assayer's Office, As Genuine 24 Carat Gold." Our Auction #203 example exceeded $290.00.
