Item numbers 978 through 2735 in auction 216
Item Description
Gorey was an enthusiastic supporter of the New York City ballet and these buttons were created October, 1975 to be sold as fund-raiser merchandise in their gift store. The website “Goreyana” states “These Buttons Were Usually Made In Very Limited Quantities And Were Sold In The Lobby’s And Gift Stores At The Event. Extra Buttons Were Usually Sold By The Gotham Book Mart. Even Though They Were Inexpensive Souvenirs, They Can Be Quite Difficult To Find Today, Making Them A Challenging Collectible To Acquire.” These are two of six designs made and includes the only one of the six which has a color accent. Slightest surface wear in reflected light but Exc. and displaying Mint. Our Auction #212 group of four exceeded $200.
