Item Description
From 1950, last year of Mix premiums. First is 4x5.75" envelope with 1950 cancellation and Ralston Straight Shooter return address. Typed mailing label. Light surface dust. Holds folded 8.5x11" typed letter on "Tom Mix/Ralston Straight Shooter" stationery. Letter explains "Because Of The Tremendous Amount Of Metal And Plastic Required In The Military Effort We Have Found It Impossible To Have More Made...The Money You Sent For Your Tom Mix Premium Is Safely Returned In The Little Envelope Enclosed. Sincerely Yours/Tom Mix" with facsimile signature. Included is 2.25x3.5" coin envelope and two Mercury dimes. 1940/1945 US coins. Letter is folded with tiny repeat staple holes possibly stapled closed to hold coin envelope. Exc. Difficult to believe that such an effort was put forth to assure that this Straight Shooter's refund with the explanation of the need for military material in 1950 was returned. Exc. Rare. First we've seen.
