Item Description
10x15.25" with thin cardboard covers. Contains 40 sheets printed on one side, including b/w title page and 39 sheets in full color Sunday page reprints which comprise almost the entire year of 1903. Front cover specialty art by creator F. Opper, who also created "Happy Hooligan" and "Maud the Mule." Front cover has text on left "New Edition, 1903 With Many Additional New Pictures. Published By The New York American And Journal." Title page has text "Alphonse And Gaston, A Series Of Comic Pictures By F. Opper," and is ©1902 by W.R. Hearst. Entire spine has a strip of duct tape extending .75" into left side of front cover and 1-1/8" onto right side of back cover. Upper right corner of front cover has faint 1.25" crease and a 7/8" tear which has been repaired on the inside cover with two strips of clear tape. Blank back cover has several scattered but small moisture marks. Title page has some light creasing and is missing a 1x1.25" piece of right side of top edge. Last few pages have light vertical creases at top corner tips. Except for duct tape, which can be replaced by a restorer, problems are minor and book has a clean, bright and Exc. appearance.
