Item Description
22.25x33.5" glossy stiff paper poster printed by Orbit Graphic Arts ©1968 Celestrial Art, San Francisco. Border design is photo of flowers and butterflies plus some pin-back buttons of the time period such as "Make Love Not War, America Has Gone To Pot, Draft Beer Not Boys." At center is an incredibly detailed illustration of Haight Ashbury stores, houses, apartment buildings, etc. At the bottom stores include Pacific Drugs, Xanadu, Opium Den, others. The Straight Theater has Country Joe and the Fish on the marquee. On many of the other buildings are graffiti and such signs as "End Vietnam War, Jesus Was A Beatnik, Hippie Power," etc. There are also many small images of people including Iwo Jima-inspired pose of Hippies planting a peace symbol, musicians holding a large balloon featuring the Zig-Zag man, couple sitting on top of tree smoking a pipe, etc. At the top is a large group of people around open-bed trucks that features four different bands performing, each with their own banner above them and these are Grateful Dead, Charletons, Big Brother and the Holding Company, Quicksilver Messenger Service. At the bottom is a large title "Haight Ashbury" with letters covered by additional flower images and at bottom center is tiny text reading "New Haight-Ashbury." Scattered light margin wear from handling but clean and Exc. A great and graphic poster in which new details are discovered upon each viewing.
