Item Description
This beautifully executed piece is likely c. 1832, the centennial of his birth. 13/16" deep by 2-7/8" diameter. The only damage is a 1/16x1/2" long lacquered sliver off top lid edge and similar 3/16" long off lid edge at 5 o'clock. The only paint wear is along the extreme outer perimeter of lid which once had greenish-blue accent on the narrow raised edge. About 30% of this remains. Because the image area is slightly recessed, this is N. Mint with only normal microscopic craze lines in the lacquer covering the paint. A somewhat youthful Washington in military uniform seated on rearing horse is depicted above the caption "General Washington." While not a campaign item, we can't imagine a more beautifully executed piece to represent the father of our country. Unique design and rare as an early 19th century snuff box.
