Item Description
Levine was millionaire in the competition for $25,000 prize for first NY-Paris flight. Lindy beat him in May but in June, he announced his plane piloted by Clarence Chamberlain would fly faster and further carrying a mystery passenger. June 4, 1927, thousands gathered at Roosevelt Field and Levine himself turned out to be the passenger. His wife fainted - his children wept. Forty-two hours later, they landed in a central Germany wheat field, smashing Lindy's record. Levine was particularly honored by American Jews for his courage and fortitude. Image a bit off-center. No backpaper as issued. Only one seen. High gloss and NM.
