Auction #186 - Part II
Item numbers 897 through 2517 in auction 186
Item Description
5” tall ashtray modeled to be underside of woman’s burlesque skirt with legs protruding from center up. Ashtray has gold accents on shoes, bracelet around ankles, and dress as well as text “Earl Carroll’s – Hollywood.” Earl Carroll was a producer-director-lyricist on Broadway whose racy shows and groundbreaking presentation of full nudity on a Broadway stage made him notorious. After a few failed business ventures, Carroll opened the Earl Carroll Theatre in the late 1930’s. This ashtray commemorated this club and was likely produced in the late 1940’s. Ashtray is made of two components one being the tray which is the skirt and another center piece with woman’s legs. Legs have been glued to base at one point. Ashtray has all over crazing but still a very nice presentation piece. VF with an Exc. appearance.
