Item Description
We searched the Collins reference on parade torches for information on this jumbo-sized torch but the closest thing is his #7, a three-burner "platform torch" dated as possibly 1860. This five-burner is likely 1880s and is beautifully constructed. The thick wood pole with tapered handle is nearly 1.5" dia. and overall 3.5' long. The fuel cylinder is very large, 4.25" dia. by 17.5" long. Mounted on top are 5 brass cylinders each with a threaded base (for fuel loading or wick changing) and complete with 5 thick fabric wicks. Shows minor general wear (mostly just a few small paint spots on handle) and the soldered tin container has nice glossy metallic gray finish. The largest (and only one) we've seen and a most impressive display piece. VF.
