Item numbers 1 though 933 in auction 188
Item Description
Lot consists of 3.75x6.5" air mail envelope and 5.75x8" four-page, hand-written account of Lindbergh's arrival at US submarine base at Coco Colo, Canal Zone. Postal cancellation reads "Cristobal Canal Zone/Feb. 10, 1929." Ink stamp at bottom left reads "First Flight/Canal Zone USA." Postally cancelled 25¢ air mail stamp is affixed to envelope next to canal zone 2¢ postage. Opened at top and side. Surface dust and handling creases, but remains sturdy. Top of folded letter is printed "U.S. Submarine Base/Coco Solo, C.Z." Nicely hand-written account by "Aunt Hazel" details Lindbergh's arrival in "The Enormous Mail Plane." Text continues "We Saw Lindy's Brown Helmet Then His Smart Smile And Without Paying Any Attention To The Crowd He Began To Give Directions About The Unloading Of The Big Bags Of Mail...He Left Immediately In Another Plane For The Pacific Side Where He Is The Guest Of Our Fleet On Board The U.S.S. Saratoga." An interesting and detailed account. Lot also comes with three Xeroxed wire service stories corroborating what the lady wrote in the letter. Very Fine.
