Auction #187 - Part II
Item numbers 927 through 2489 in auction 187
Item Description
The Superman Daily comic strip began running in January 1939. It is very likely that this rare button is from that year. Rim text says "Read Superman Daily In The Democrat." We've seen only 3 examples and our last in Auction #182 with 4 hairline cracks and some gray toning realized $1,000.00 This example also has serious condition defects but displays VG. There are numerous cello hairline cracks. The most serious ran full length vertically .5" from the left and then at the bottom it followed the edge from 6 o'clock to 3 o'clock. This has been professionally re-glued plus small touch-up to the head area of his shadow. This 3/16" dia. shadow area has bit of extra gloss but the celluloid cracks are largely not obvious unless button is moved around in reflected light. Small bit of pale gray tone around lower right edge and center area is very slightly pushed in. Technically just "Fair" condition but displays much better and consignor's opening bid is most conservative considering we know of only one undamaged example.
