Item Description
Wonderful set of eight boxed dolls ranging in height from Dwarfs at around 7" tall each to Snow White, who stands 12.5" tall. Produced by famous English toy and dollmaker Chad Valley, c. 1938. Dolls come in complete set of eight original chipboard boxes, covered in seven different styles of paper w/large end labels, seven of which include image of Chad Valley factory w/"'Chad Valley' Hygienic Textile Toys" text while other box has "Chad Valley Hygienic Art Dolls" text and no illustration of any kind. All had character name stamped on end label, four of these names remain legible as rest have faded. Six Dwarf boxes as well as Snow White box show varying degrees of aging and some have had interior lid corner repairs. Boxes are clean, tight and Fine overall. Bashful box was stored improperly over the years and has heavy moisture damage w/rippling to surface paper and small hole in lid. Just Good, but doll remains unaffected. Dwarf dolls have cloth bodies/arms w/pants sewn onto bodies, cotton twill jackets, mohair beards and felt hats. All have molded faces w/expressive painted features. Each has 2.5" long double-sided string tag attached to arm w/character specific text on one side along w/"From The Film Snow White And The Seven Dwarfs" text. Reverse has maker name as well as "By Permission Of Walt Disney - Mickey Mouse Ltd." text. These show scattered wear but are complete. Dwarfs also have "Hygienic Toys Made In England By Chad Valley Ltd." tag sewn on under clothing. Doc is complete w/original celluloid glasses. All appear untouched and stand well. Choice, Exc./NM condition. Snow White doll has mohair wig w/original ribbon, one-piece cloth dress, felt shoes w/original ribbon bows and molded face w/beautiful painted expression. Tag sewn on body under dress. Requires doll stand for display. Has tiny hole on back of neck (hidden by flared collar) and bottom of collar on back of dress has .5x1" area of lt. staining. None of this affects doll's display from front and doll is still VF/Exc. overall. Amazing complete set w/original boxes and in choice condition. As nice as these come.
