Item Description
7.5x9.5" paper sign used to promote the card set by Gum, Inc. issued 1939-1940. ACC #R165. Several different card designs were used. This one features same image as card #95 with text reading "Royal Oak Sunk! A daring Nazi Submarine Invaded The Great British Naval Base At Scapa Flow, Sinking The Battleship Royal Oak. Over 800 Drowned!" Additional text at bottom reads "War News Pictures And Chewing Gum 1¢/For Sale Here." Blank reverse has glue staining, some bleeds through on the front but image and color remain strong. Tiny tip off top left corner. Fine. A rare gum card advertising piece, only a few examples of theses signs are known. In our June 2008 auction we sold a sign featuring card #80 design for $2,087.
