Item Description
In Auction #216 the first example we ever offered of this button realized $3,289 premium included. This price pulled this example from a collection. Condition is just as nice as the record setting example. Button is complete with its paper by The American Artworks, Inc. Coshocton, Ohio. Button features a beautiful color scene of Santa flying his airplane above tiny buildings below and with yellow moon above. The plane is inscribed on the side "Spirit Of 1927", an obvious reference to the astounding New York to Paris flight of Charles Lindbergh. The seat behind Santa is overflowing with toys and a Christmas tree. The advertising inscription is simply "Marx For Toys" and it is quite possible this button was produced for wholesale toy dealers only and likely given away at the annual New York City industry Toy Fair of that year. That would account for the button's great rarity. Other than a tiny pinpoint nick on the back paper the button is essentially Mint.
