Item Description
Pair of plaster figures offered as carnival prizes in the 1940s. 10-3/8" tall hollow Ferdinand features great full body depiction of adult Ferdinand seated among flowers. Complete w/separate fabric flower bunch to insert in hole in mouth as made. Several different Ferdinand designs were produced, this is one of the nicer ones. Moderate aging w/scattered dust soiling and small paint flakes. Right horn has repair and has been repainted. .25x3/8" chip to tip of one hoof. VG/Fine. 14.25" tall solid plaster statue depicts angry-looking Matador. Characters from this animated short are caricatures of various Disney personnel, most notably Walt Disney himself who is depicted here as the Matador. Back of statue has incised 1939 copyright. Dark sparkle accents to coat and vest as well as shoes. Wonderfully expressive pose. This statue is larger and rivals that of Brayton Laguna figurine produced for this character. Statue has a few small scattered paint flakes but is o/w VF/Exc. Very rare, the only example we know of. Eric Renner Collection and the Matador example is shown on page 14 of his book "American Disguise."
