Item Description
12.5x20-3/8x10.5" deep painted wooden case w/silk-screened text/images and illustrated playing field behind glass. 1940s. "Keep Em Bombing" text at top w/American eagle and bombers w/coin slots on them. This countertop penny game features strong Anti-Axis theme w/"Smack A Jap" text to left/right of glass-covered playing field w/nails that features image of Japanese airfield w/Imperial Japanese flags at bottom corners and images of Tojo w/two Japanese soldiers at bottom center reacting angrily as Allied bombers rain several bombs down upon them. Four point markers along bottom w/either "10 Japs" or "25 Japs" designation. Printed directions read "Select One To Five Planes By Inserting One To Five Pennies In Each - Then Pull Down Bomb Release - From 1 to 25¢ May Be Played At One Time." Bomb Release is at top center by bomber images, bottom center has .25x.5" flake/chip of painted surface wood. Sides of game have "Buy United States Defense Bonds & Stamps" decal and front of game has additional "The Owner Of This Unit Has Pledged Himself To Purchase U.S. Defense Stamps And Bonds With His Share Of The Income To Buy Bombers For The U.S.A. And 'Keep 'Em Flying'." Scattered aging/wear w/some small paint flakes at upper left and .25x.5" chip out of bottom left front edge. Upper left corner of front ha s.25x3.5" flake/chip of surface wood. Machine is in working order and works by gravity. Bomb Release's threaded metal rod is present, but missing knob from end. Fine overall and still very nice for display.
