Item Description
Typical plated brass/copper ashtray/matchbox holder of the period has been embellished by an RAF squadron member, who attached a painted copper uniform button on one side w/etched "R.A.F. No. 88 Squadron" text underneath. Reverse has etched "Tis Great Fun To Bomb An Itie Or A Hun, Unless Tis Half-Done" verse. Ashtray edges have also been etched w/names of four cities - Athens, Turin, Genoa and El Alamein. Scattered aging and wear w/some trace oxidation. Fine. Unique item.
