Item Description
We will begin with button which matches the mermaid button in the previous lot. Apparently a graduate that year decided to customize their own button so they took the class button and totally repainted both the lettering and the mermaid image. There are two tiny paint flakes, one off the mermaid's hair and one off her lower arm. About 96% of the added paint remains intact. VF. A second button with initials only reads "T.J.H.S./Senior 1949." This is 2.5". Some light surface scratching of a minor nature shows only in reflected light. Grey mark on bottom was dirt now removed. VF. Remainder of the lot consists of 18 buttons naming Taft. 14 of the 18 are different with four duplicates. There are also four misc. badges in the group shown at the bottom of the photo. Vast majority of these badges were pinned to a fabric band member's hat reading "Taft 52" on the front with stenciled name of original owner named "Gene" below. Top of the hat has stenciled name "Winick." Hat has numerous but small pinholes from where the buttons were positioned but overall condition remains VG. Dates on the buttons span 1949 through 1952. Row 3 button #3 has been customized with scratched in artwork and the following button has name "Gene" lightly scratched at the center. The other buttons are Exc. Group is essentially a four year collection of buttons by someone who attended the school during those years.
