Item Description
In 1937 Marlin Firearms Co. issued a Tom Mix endorsed rifle named the "Tom Mix Special .22 Caliber Rifle." The actual rifle is inscribed with his name. Mix appeared in Marlin ads promoting the rifle. The same ads offered a "Simulated Gold Military Type Ring" along with a booklet by the National Rifle Association titled "How To Set Up A Rifle Range", both for 10¢. Later, the same ring was offered as a "Gold Bullseye Ring" available to boys in groups of ten rings or more for 6¢ each with the suggestion that the rings be sold for 10¢ each and used as an insignia for members of a Marlin Firearms club. Still later, in the 1950s, Marlin gave away these rings from their booth at NRA meetings and exhibitions. In spite of the numerous offerings, the ring is today scarce. Each side of the ring has detailed and large emblem of spread-wing eagle perched on a shield. There is a tiny bit of luster loss on the very base of the ring but over 95% of the ring retains its gorgeous and deep lustrous brass finish. The black accent paint on the target area is 100% complete. Exc.
