Item Description
In 1940, DC Comics ran a Superman contest promoted in both "Superman" and "Action Comics" w/1,600 of these rings issued as prizes (possibly also used as a give-away w/candy/gum promotions as well). We know of around two dozen examples of this rare ring in various condition grades. Ring's base is adjustable silvered brass w/pair of lightning bolts on one side and planet design on the other. Prongs have some bends from use w/one prong having most of silvering missing. Ring's top features brass disc w/raised image of Superman breaking chain surrounded by "Supermen Of America - Member" text. Inscription bkg. features red paint, which is the first color to wear off of these rings. This example exhibits approx. 90% of red paint present. Fine overall. One of the most coveted Superman items of any era. Franco Toscanini Collection.
