Item Description
1.5x1.75" piece of lead w/graphic of coffin surrounded by text " Medal Struck From A Portion Of The Lead Which Lined The Coffin Of Prest. Abrm. Lincoln Assassinated Apl. 15, 1865." Area between 4 and 6 o'clock is lightly struck otherwise only pleasing light bands of toning. Between 1865 and 1901 Lincoln's remains were moved on a number of occasions, including after an attempted theft. In September of 1901 the lead liner of the coffin was removed before the coffin was encased in cement and returned to its final resting place. This is only the third example of this particular relic we are aware of and only the fourth example of any 'piece' of the liner we have encountered. Past results for smaller relics, not struck, have exceeded $2000 and the only record for a similar struck example exceeded $4000. That example had a hole and displayed square. The present example is a pleasing diamond shape and is essentially Mint as made. A truly rare investment grade Lincoln relic that is sure to incite tremendous amounts of conversation.
